Welcome to the Academy of St. Polycarp school website sponsored by Laurie DeZao (School Administrator). This is an exciting time for your preschooler and Kindergartener as we begin our journey into the introductory years of your child's education. We have created a well-rounded program that incorporates Catholic values, exceptionally qualified teachers, enthusiatic parents, and bright eager young children.
We are committed to providing the best early education program in the area, and we believe parents should be an integral part of the cirriculum. We encourage an open line of Communication and we welcome your suggestions and observations at any time.
Objectives
The Academy at St. Polycarp welcomes any child whose needs can be met by the staff and facilities. A close relationship between students, teachers, parents, faculty and staff is fostered as an intergral part of the development of the whole child into a productive Christian citizen. To continue to achieve our educational goals we pledge to maintain an updated curriculum, provide qualified staff, and implement cultural and physical education programs.
Faculty
The faculty of Academy at St. Polycarp consists of caring, nurturing staff that meed or exceed the Department of Education standards for the 3 year old, Pre-K and Kindergarten classes. Classroom assistants serve in each of the classrooms to assist classroom teachers.
Academics
Full time academic subjects include: religion, language arts, math, science, and social studies. The concern for the student's spiritual, academic and moral growth. All students have art daily. We provide a music program in which we provide each student with the basic knowledge of and appreciation for music. This is achieved through many levels, through varied methods of expression, which include: signing, playing rhythm instruments, dancing, and movement.
Kindergarten will take trips to the Smyrna Library. 3's and 4's have a collection of books in the classroom. A mini computer lab is maintained in the Kindergarten. Each student is challenged to learn basic computer skills such as keyboarding. Each class is scheduled for one physical education period per week.
